Only in North Dakota

I am updating again to show you the snow we received today. Only in North Dakota can we have 50+ temps, a flood and a blizzard within one week. The news said Linton got 8 inches of new snow. What do you think???? Looks like almost 2 feet to me. Our driveway was totally clear yesterday. It has been snowing all day. School was cancelled for today, I am sure it will be at least 2 hours late if not cancelled for tomorrow also. We could get a little more tonight with some blowing. The scary thing is that it is supposed to be 50' by Sunday. I hope we don't have another flood. I just had to post some pictures for you to see. It is unbelievable.

My mom was supposed to come to Linton on Saturday from Minnesota. We canceled because of the Fargo flood and now with this blizzard, she wouldn't have been able to get home. Minnesota is supposed to get this weather starting tonight. Hopefully she can come sometime soon. We were all very sad that Grandma couldn't come visit. We miss her!
I also want to post on Bemidji State University Beaver Hockey Team, they were the lowest seed in the conference and they won last night. They beat Cornell University, from New York, to be one on the four teams in the frozen four...They will start the play offs on April 9th on ESPN2. I went to BSU for my pre requisits for Mortuary Science.
WoooHooo. Way to go Beavers! Paul said it is a big deal just to make it into the frozen four, Lets hope they win the whole thing.

Flood Update

I just wanted to update everyone on the flood. Most of the water is gone now. We have a lot of ice, mud and some water left. A lot of people still have water in their basements. I wonder how long it will take to get things dried up. Some of the people of Linton have been making meals, donating household items, clothing and a lot of time. It is so amazing how the community has come together to help out. It is very sad to visit with the flood victims. Most everyone I have talked with are so devastated. They are still in shock. Some are very angry, others still very sad. Now people are starting to clean up, what a process that is. Yesterday and today, we had fairly nice weather, so a lot of people were able to empty their basements. Old town is covered with washers, dryers, refridgerators, freezers, beds, matresses and lot of wood and junk. Some people have been lucky and found housing already, some are staying with family and friends. Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers, this is going to be a very long process. I also want to add, that I am proud to be a part of such an awesome community. Everyone is helping each other out. People have definitly come together to help out.

Oh, I almost forgot, we are now in a Blizzard Warning, yes you read that right! We are looking to get 10 to 12 inches of snow by Wednesday am along with 40 mph winds. I love snow, but this is getting old. We are all ready for spring. I wonder what will happen when this melts.
I will chat again soon. Thanks for visiting.

Birthday Wishes

Happy Birthday Sarah!!!!!!
Today is my good, good friend Sarah's birthday. We have been friends since 9th grade. We have been through a lot of great times together. In high school we were inseperable. It is crazy that we lived only 3 blocks from each other growing up and now we live in a different state (from where we grew up) but only 1 hour away. We see each other often. Our kids are friends and our husbands are friends. We introduced Doug and Sarah. It is funny that most of the time we know what the other person is thinking or going to say without saying a word. Sarah is a very cheerful person and can always make me smile. Thanks for being a good friend. I hope you have a happy birthday. We will get together soon and celebrate.
Enjoy your day. You deserve a great day .

I will also be updating tonight on the flood, we have a meeting tonight at 6pm for the residents of "old town". Talk to you later.

Linton Flood 2009

This is 2 blocks down from our house.
They used a boat and a tractor to evacuate a family
Also 2 blocks down from our house. They are friends of ours. They have water in their basement and now it has reached their main floor

This is the south part of Linton, by the motel and Gas Plus.
taken on Monday morning.

Same house as above taken Sunday night. The water moved very fast!
Jack right in front of our house. We are up on a hill, so we should be safe.

Our backyard, the water was running over hwy 83 and running right into a field behind our house. You wouldn't believe how fast the water ran.

South Linton, the gas station and deli.

a rescue boat down the hill from our house. Old town had mandatory evacuation.

glad that isn't my van!
Oh my gosh, this is so crazy and totally unbelievable! We arrived home on Sunday afternoon, about 3pm, planning to unload and attend the welcome home party for the basketball team. When we got into town, we had to take a detour. Water was rushing over the highway and a car had ran off of the road and into the water. We went around. When we came to our neighborhood, we had to go down the hill about a block south of our house, their was water to the west, but we made it home no problem. Within 30 minutes, the water was running everywhere! Paul left at 3:30 to help load sandbags and didn't come home until about 11pm. I was outside many times watching the water make its way up towards our hill. Everyone assured me that it would NEVER come up that high and so far so good. By 9pm Sunday night, they were asking people in old town to evacuate. Most people did, but some stayed. The ones that stayed are the ones you see in the above pictures being taken in boats and tractors.
We drove around a little on Monday afternoon and I was amazed how bad it really was. You see things like this on tv and you feel bad, but you really don't know how it feels or how bad it really is until it hits close to home. You just can't imagine what Linton looks like. The pictures don't even do it justice. There are probably 75 homes in old town that will need some serious remodeling or even start over.
I want to send out a huge thank-you to the community of Linton. It is so awesome to see a community come together and help each other out. The sheriff, the police, county workers, fireman, paramedics, and many community members worked together. We had a sandbag station set up at the courthouse. Many people were filling sandbags and loading them. Women were in the courthouse making sandwiches, hot cocoa and water for the volunteers. The national guard came down along with the red cross and salvation army. We didn't have school on Monday or Tuesday. I am sure things will be more normal tomorrow.
I will keep everyone posted on the cleanup and the weather. I saw tonight, we could be in for another snow storm next week. hopefully, the temps will remain near normal, so we don't have such fast melting. Thanks to everyone for the calls, thoughts and prayers!

Class B Boys Basketball Champions

Will and Jack with their favorite player
#43 Big Jon Pavlicek
he is 6 ft 8 in. tall 25 years ago, Linton was the state class B champions.
The players of that team were honored at the game on Friday night.
History has been repeated!!!!
Jack wanted his entire face painted 1/2 yellow and 1/2 maroon.
He settled for a paw print and #43

Will had #43 painted on his cheek, his favorite player...
Charlie even had a paw print painted on his little cheek.

Will and Jack getting ready to cheer on the Lions!

We had a blast in Minot this past weekend. The Linton Lions captured the title of Class B Boys Basketball Champions. It was an awesome game. The Linton Lions are an awesome team. They work hard and deserve to win. They ended the season 26 - 0, they never lost a game this season. The bench is 11 kids deep. The coach subs five guys at a time. This is a huge benefit for the lions because the other teams are wore out by half-time, and they don't get wore down.
Grandma Sannes went with us to each of the 3 games. She became a lions fan right away.
We stayed at John and Glenda's house. The boys had a lot of fun playing with their cousins and they even came to the game on Saturday night.

wrestling and basketball

hello

It seems like it is spring here, the weather has been beautiful! I have had windows open during the day. It is awesome. The weather report says a huge possibility of another snow storm on Monday...UUGGHHH. I hope they are wrong this time.

We had wrestling on Saturday in Linton and in Wishek on Tuesday. Jack took 4th in Linton and 2nd in Wishek. We had a lot of fun. I didn't get too many pictures of him. I don't like to post any pictures of other kids, the parents may not want them on the internet. The picture is of Jack in his lion cub singlet. He really loves wrestling.
Will had a basket ball tournament on Saturday. I couldn't get any good pictures of him, so I will wait to post some pictures until after the next game. He had such a good game. His team took 3rd place in the over all tournament. Will had so many shots that would swirl around the basket and pop back out. The last second of the last game, he had the ball, he shot, the clock buzzed and he made the basket. He was so proud. What a shot!!!!!
Grandma Sannes came to stay with us for the weekend. She came to see Will's basketball game and Jack wrestle. She was so glad she was able to see them. We love having her here. Of course, we played a little pinochle, and watched Linton clinch the region basketball championship. YEAH Lions!!! We will be heading to Minot to watch Linton play in the class B Boys basketball state tournament this weekend. We are leaving tomorrow. We will have a blast watching the tournament and being with Paul's family. The boys are excited to see their cousins.
I will update and hopefully post more pictures.
Have a great weekend.

Busy Busy Busy

hello
We are so busy around here. Everyone is tried and crabby. Charlie has been so busy with potty training. He gets so excited when he goes. Sometimes when I put him on the potty, he sits for a minute and then says, "It is not working" I guess that means he doesn't have to go. Most of the time he goes right away. I get frustrated with him when he sits and sits, then gets down and goes in his pants..... He loves wearing "big boy" pants. Sometimes he tells us he has to go, but most of the time, he only goes if we put him on. I am proud of him, but kind of sad. I miss my baby.

Jack is busy with wrestling. He loves being in wrestling, he wants to put the moves on all of us. He has a wrestling match on Saturday, so I will post some pictures. It is so much fun to watch him. Even if he loses a match, he leaves the mat smiling! Most kids are almost crying, not Jack, he always has a smile. I love that about him, he is happy and thinks everyone should be happy. He wrestles because he really loves it and if he gets a medal or ribbon that is just an extra bonus.

Will is busy with school, he is doing a report on William Clarke. He has to dress up like him too. I keep asking him when he needs to get some clothes. He says not yet. Will likes to wait until the last minute....hmmm, I wonder where he gets that! Will is a very mellow kid, he is always kind to others and thinks about others feelings. I love that about him. I know Will is always willing to help me. He is also playing basketball. He likes to play any sport. He has a tournament on Saturday, so after Jack's wrestling we are heading to Will's basketball game.

Paul is busy at work too. He has been pretty steady with funerals. I am amazed at how many people really appreciate Paul's help and compassion. Well, actually, I am not surprised at all. Paul really loves his job and the people he serves. He gives 100% to each and every family he works with. Everything comes so natural for him.

I of course, run to each activity the boys are in and TRY to keep up with the house. Some days are very hectic. I love watching the boys in their own activity and love to take pictures to scrapbook. They are used to me and just expect that I will be there with my camera. Smile boys!

If the Linton boys basketball team wins each of their regional games, they will have the regional championship on Saturday, so after wrestling and basketball, we are going to head to Jamestown and watch that game too. Oh and I almost forgot, I have scrapbookinhg on Friday night. I promise I will find time to post some pictures of the boys from our busy weekend.
take care and we will chat again soon

WOOOHOOO

We had Charlie's Dr. appt this afternoon and I am happy to announce that he does not need tubes! Well, not yet. Dr Buell said if he gts another ear infection within the next 30 days, then he needs to be seen again, but if he doesn't then we should be good. Thanks for all your prayers, they really helped. Charlie has been complaining about his back molar, it is huge. Lets hope it doesn't bring on an ear infection.

We did like Dr. Buell. I was kind of skeptical because we have a friend who loves him and we have another friend who doesn't like him at all. I know that happens with all Dr's. Some people like them and others just don't. Well, we loved Dr. Buell, he was awesome! He teased Charlie and played with him. He talked with him and really seemed interested in him. Charlie even made him laugh a couple times. Thanks to my friends for your comments, good and bad re Dr. Buell, I really appreciate them. I am just glad to say we didn't need tubes, but if he did, I would be very comfortable having Dr. Buell put them in.

I am going to close for tonight. Jon & Kate plus 8 is coming on and I am in the mood to sit in the recliner with a blanket and watch TV.....see ya later

Dr.'s appt

Tomorrow is the big day. Charlie has his appt with the ENT. We will find out if he needs tubes or not. If his ears are clear, then he will not need anything, if they are gunky, then he will get tubes. Well, I think he will, Iam not sure what to think. I am a little nervous about the whole thing. I don't want my baby to have surgery. I will let you all know tomorrow what happened. Thanks for all the advise I have received.

Happy Birthday to Lori....hope you had a great day. You deserve the best. I know this has been an exciting year for you and now you can celebrate with your beautiful little girl. Everything seems so much brighter when you have a child. Enjoy!

Weekend

We had such a fun and relaxing weekend. Lori and Karady stayed with us this weekend. It was a lot of fun. We had great food. Well, not on Saturday night. We had planned to do an Olive Garden meal. I found recipes on the internet and bought all the ingredients. We had bruschetta for an appetizer. Zuppa Tuscano, Five cheese ziti and creamy schrimp scampi with fettucini. We also had a crockpot chocolate cake for dessert. I absolutely love the five cheese ziti from the Olive Garden, so I was excited to make it. Well, the Olive Garden has nothing to worry about, I will not be making it again, it was awful! Everyone else loved it, but not me. Then my appetite was kind of spoiled so nothing seemed to taste good. We made an awesome hot layered cheese dip. I will definitly be making that again. It was so good. We did a lot of scrapbooking, I got 6 pages finished. We were up late every night. We had a lot of good laughs. It was a lot of fun. We are so glad that Lori and Karady could stay with us. Come and stay anytime!

Yesterday, Charlie and I planned to go to Bismarck shopping. When I was getting ready, I tried to kick my laundry out of the way to close the closet door. Well, I kicked the door instead.... OUCH!!!! Man did that hurt. My toe was swollen and very sore. Charlie and I did go to Bismarck, I hobbled my way around. I told Charlie several times..."Oh Charlie, my toe really hurts", he would say, " I am sorry mommy". How sweet! When I got home my toe was purple on each side. I thought for sure I broke it. My mom thought it was funny...no sympathy there. When I got up this morning, it felt much better, still sore and purple, but better. I don't think I broke it, but must have bruised it good.

Jack started wrestling after school yesterday, I will post some pictures of him at a match soon. We will be busy with that for the month of March. He has practice on Mondays and Tuesdays. Matches usually on Fridays, Saturdays or Tuesdays. He loves it and gets very excited. We are still learning about wrestling, but have found it to be interesting. He has his first match on Friday.

We also have a busy week at work, 3 funerals so far. Please keep our friend Janelle and her family in your prayers this week. Her uncle died on Friday. Please watch over them while they are traveling and keep them in you care during this sad time. Amen.

thanks for checking in with us again. we will chat again soon.
